Bernard A.
Williams has devoted his life to spreading the gospel in song no
matter what the occasion or where the location might be -- a social
event, a church setting, a family gathering, over the hills of Lookout
Mountain, or even down on the shores of Mobile Bay because he can
remember that his mother would always tell him "It's time to
be about your Father's business." Williams' favorite saying
is "If I can help somebody as I pass along, if I can cheer
somebody with a word or a song, if I can tell somebody when they
are traveling wrong, then my living shall not be in vain."
Williams, born to Charlie F. and the late Catherine V. Williams,
was one of the ten children. He grew up in a very religious home
where the family faithfully attended Ebenezer Baptist Church in
Lanett, Alabama.
He grew up singing in the Junior Choir, then later began to take
the piano lessons he had always longed for. He developed a love
for all music. Still, he felt drawn to religious and gospel songs
because he felt they gave more hope to the listeners.
Williams' mother was always in the Senior Choir and seemed to master
every song she sang. She gave Williams both encouragement and constructive
criticism, which he learned to value from her. Never dreaming that
he would become a singer, Williams' first solo as a teenager was
"God Is So Good." He was pleasantly surprised at the positive
reception from his listeners.
Williams has remained very active in the church where he is an associate minister, a lead singer in the senior choir ,and in the male chorus. He has spent a great
deal of his time singing in prison ministries, nursing homes, schools,
festivals, and churches in the Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee communities.
He also participates as a member of several Praise and Worship Teams
in the local area.
In the fall of 1998, Williams recorded a CD entitled "Songs
from the Heart" in tribute to his mother for her dedication
to God and to music, and for having a positive impact on his life.
Williams' second CD entitled "Come On Children, Let's Sing,"
has been released and is sure to please any gospel music lover.
Producer Dave Signs headed up William's new project along with Beth
Travers, bass guitarist.
Williams has performed on two consecutive occasions at the Independent
MusicFest in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2001 the MusicFest was held
at the city's Municipal Auditorium and in 2002 the MusicFest was
held at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. He was selected to perform
several songs during this international event hosted by Becky Rea
and Steven B. Riley, executive producer and CO-producer respectively.
He has been a guest artist at the Nashville Cowboy Church during
services held at the Texas Troubadour Theater under the direction
of the church founder and pastor Dr. Harry Yates and his wife Joanne
Cash Yates, the younger sister of the country music legend Johnny
Cash. The Sunday morning service is broadcast to more than 100 countries
to a worldwide audience of 12 million.
Williams has also had the opportunity to be a guest performer with
such great artists as Charles Johnson and the Reviver, Lulu Roman,
The Perrys, The Telestials, and recently The Dove Brothers.
Williams also credits Pastor L.B. Wallace for believing in him and
for offering him words of encouragement, sometimes with sternness.
Her undeniable faith in God was evident because she spent her lifetime
telling him and everyone else she came in contact with to "Prepare
to meet thy God."
Williams recently spent the fall of 2002 working on a gospel music
video at the Gospel Country Network (GCN) in Nashville, Tennessee.
The video, produced by Don Frost, airs on Gospel Music Television
(GMT) and Sky Angel and reaches a worldwide audience of 33 million
viewers.
Williams also had the opportunity to perform with the Sons of LaFayette,
a community group of men in the Georgia area. The group performed
songs from the classical and spiritual to show tunes and jazz.
For the last couple of years Bernard has served as president for the Lanett High School
Band Booster and president of the 2006 / 2007 LHS PTO Dept.
Williams is the proud single parent of his two sons Courtney a Junior. and Carlton a Sophomore where both attend Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama.
